Behind the Scenes of Male Pageantry

Another year of #USofA male pageantry for the record books. Wow, where to begin?! There’s definitely been a few proud highs and more lows than I feel strong enough to mention here. But I will. Sorry to be so dramatic but “it’s been a year.” I guess it begins at the beginning of my run to become Mr. Gay USofA 2016. Perhaps before that in my first year where I made the Top 12 in ’14, dancing alone in San Antonio at nationals shocking everyone including myself. Then last year bringing my fabulous girls from L.A. to dance for the kids in Texas where I made the Top 12, once more, placing even higher than before. …

True Confessions of a Pageant Papi

I just returned home from competing for the title Mr. Gay Sin City USofA in Las Vegas last week. For the first time ever I kept quiet about where I was headed as I prepared to propel forward to reaching my dream and again compete nationally for the title Mr. Gay USofA. It was so hard to keep quiet because I am a firm believer in being your own biggest fan and top salesman. I tend to be very vocal with all the GO! FIGHT! STEVE! I’m able to muster. I become very pep rally for myself because no one does it for me. And that’s ok. It should matter to me the most! …

When Grown Men Chase Crowns

What does it take to enter a contest or pageant and run for a national title? You may think you have an idea but there’s so much that goes into it that no one sees. Until now. I’m going to give you my tale, take and takeaway from this year’s Mr. Gay USofA competition in San Antonio, Texas., from a competitor’s point of view. Mine. My story may be quite similar or surprisingly different than my fellow contestants, but it’s my version and I mean no offense or foul to anyone by anything I share. What happens when grown gay men chase a prestigious pageant crown?! Somethings I’ll keep to myself. Everything else will be told. Here’s what happens…

Taking On Circus Circus Las Vegas

I just returned from a quick trip over to Las Vegas where I stayed at the past-its-prime Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. Now, to be a fan and follower of my blog here you know I am a faithful follower of The Cosmopolitan and have stayed there the last seven times we’ve been to Sin City. However, it may be eight. I’ve lost count. But since this was a business trip I was on a budget and opted to save some coins and find an alternative. Through my membership at Last Minute Travel Club online I found myself reserving a room in the Casino Tower…

A Pageant Contestant’s Testimony

I’ve become guilty of doing something I read others for many times in social media, especially Facebook. I’ll post this about that expecting everyone to know what I’m talking about and unfortunately not everyone knows the Tea. (Tea = Truth, FYI) With the push towards my run to become the national Mr. Gay USofA 2015, I’ve had a number of people ask me exactly what I was involved with. I’ve put a number of promos and adverts out to get some buzz and hype going to hopefully gain support for my attempt which has brought on what I was looking for, inquiries and quizzes. …

Heading to Mr. Gay USofA ’15 Nationals

If you follow me here or on social media then you know I’ve been preparing hard for my preliminary contest to take me back to Mr. Gay USofA nationals in San Antonio this November. I got my ticket! I’M EXCITED! I wanted to win desperately but it wasn’t in the cards this round. However I did get my qualifying ticket as first alternate to place my two dancing feet back on that stage at The Saint November 4-6. Here’s what went down in Bakersfield at the first ever Mr. Gay California USofA contest… …

Today’s Happenings – Gay Culture Now

OMG! Zayn Malik has left One Direction! OMG! I really, really couldn’t care any less. And yes, it’s the beginning of the end. Hello! Goodbye. Boy bands come and go then come back together and break up again. A few solos efforts will ensue. Not sure if any of them would be strong enough to carry on solo. Harry Styles could because he is the face of the band from what I can tell and his voice is decent. But it is what it is. May the future tribute bands start auditioning for gigs. Boy, bye. And in other news… …

Daylight Savings Times Brings Change

I just finished a day full of updating this web domain and giving it a fresher look. Between deciding what theme to choose and then tweaking it up, I am finally very happy with it all. It should be mobile-friendly and ready for micro formats more so than ever before. It had been over 4 years with the older theme so it was definitely time to do such. This one is easier on the eyes and I tied up broken links, updated content and all that jazz. Since Daylight Savings Time is now upon us…

Into Another New Year We Grow

Happy New Year! I just came to the realization that I hadn’t posted anything for the new year and I’m seriously shamed about the entire ordeal. Kidding, totes! But I did feel like popping one out on the quick-quick just to catch up for hot minute. Because it has been just that – a hot minute since I’ve been on here! What’s happening in today’s gay culture, primarily mine?! Here goes… …

Top Trends 2014 – My Year Rewind

With the increasing flow of news media today there’s many places you can find statistically speaking official charts of top stories of 2014. I love that reflection we take of the year past and hopeful optimism of the one to come. Here at my domain I chose to remember those moments in my own gay pop culture lexicon and personal life to chart as the top moments that gave me life in 2014. …
