LOVING MY NEW iPHONE 4 CASE

BellaVita iPhone4 Case

I had been looking for the right leather wallet that would hold a few cards, some bills and my iPhone for traveling or quick trip out. You know I’m a fiend for fierce gay fashion trends! I finally found it! BellaVita offers this leather case that comfortably holds the iPhone 4/4S, your ID, a few credit cards/business cards and a few bills. I chose mine in brown leather because everything I own is black. Change is good.

BellaVita iPhone 4 Case

The packaging was quite impressive. I kept the box, naturally. I know that I’m going to get the iPhone 5 very soon but also know that’s not happening tomorrow so this works wonderfully for now. Hopefully BellaVita will come out with one for iPhone 5 and I’ll happily move over relinquishing mine to someone else. The great thing about this is the open slots for charging cords and listening to music with headphones without removal of case. I bet once the case is worn in a bit it will offer a bit more room for an extra card or two.

BellaVita iPhone 4 Case

I’m thrilled with this! Check it out and find the BellaVita Espresso iPhone 4/4S Wallet in espresso brown like mine. Let’s be Twinsies.

CREATING HOLLYWOOD MAGIC AT JOE BLASCO

Steven Michael Life Cast - Joe Blasco

What do you get when you cross a room full of anxious students, one shirtless candidate for Mr. All American Gent 2013, eight knowledgeable hands working on his bald head and a jar of Vaseline?! HA! I know what it sounded like but it was SO much more. I arrived to Joe Blasco’s Makeup Training School in Hollywood only a few minutes late blaming that the “dog ate my homework.” You should ALWAYS blame it on the dog. I had spoke to Veronica at the school via the telephone a few times before arriving about what we were working on regarding my Creative Costume category creation. Joe had asked her personally to take on my project and her creative juices have been boiling! Without popping my Pageant Cherry in front of your eyes I will allow only so much of what went on in Hollywood last Monday. Come see me March in Dayton and I’ll show you EVERYTHING.

I made my way back through the school to the workroom where a dozen of students moved around making “Life Casts” (or head/shoulder busts) of each other’s heads for future prosthetics work. I stood and observed for a few minutes before sitting my ass down in a chair for my turn. It was explained by a few of the instructors what the process would be while I listened intently, half nervous/half excited. Standing there gave me a great chance to really see what transpires. Everyone seemed to be handling it well so I figured I’d be just fine.

When it was my opportunity to position myself in the chair, Veronica, a senior student at Joe’s school and my special liaison, placed a black trash bag around my legs and draped one over my shoulders like a yearbook portrait with tape to hold in place. From what was said, the alginate formula which is what they would be making my cast from dries very quickly and runs wherever it wants. Since I already had my head shaved there wouldn’t be a need for a skull cap. Veronica brushed Vaseline on my beard and mustache (and top of my chest hair) so the finished mold wouldn’t get stuck and rip my facial fur out at the roots.

Mr. Rob Burnam, an experienced instructor and true go-to man in Hollywood, mixed up the alginate and brought it over to us to begin. Alginate is like the thick mixture one would have teeth impressions made from. I was given a few instructions but the experience was worth more than anything they could have told me. As the cold mixture was immediately placed on me, four people stood around me and started working on my head pressing in crevices, smoothing it out with fingers. Slowly the mixture went over my ears and down past my chin and over my shoulders. The sensory deprivation was on overload at this point. If you’re into bondage, you may really enjoy this.

The alginate indeed does harden and gets very heavy fast. I was hearing conversation around the muffled atmosphere but would be told to either press against their pressure for resistance or to give me a time check. I returned with a thumbs-up from under my plastic California Raisin costume. Only a few times inside the head cast did I think “what if” I really needed to get out of this because from my angle I wasn’t going anywhere soon. I had the urge to blink my eyes inside but kept a round of patient breaths while the process continued. It gave me a few very peaceful moments to contemplate just what this title has truly become to me. It’s more than these words describe.

Atop the alginate, a full head and shoulders of white plaster bandage strips were then placed across the hardening mixture as one would have during a broken arm or leg to compete the casting. Even more smoothing continued and the weight was becoming considerable. Slow breaths continues peacefully. Slits around my nostrils were carefully trimmed for better accessible breathing. No straws, just my nose. Coughing would be out of the question. It was quite snug around my throat, as well.

I was alerted that when they begin to split the cast that they would not be cutting my actual ear but it may feel like it since the trim would be straight across from one shoulder to the other. I was instructed to lean forward as fingers began to find their ways under the neck slits for gripping the structure. Once I started to wiggle my nose and cheeks, I soon slid out of it with their help and my part was done. I was very happy to have finished it. They showed me inside the two pieces and how well it turned out. With the talented Chris Bergschneider, Mr. Burman, Veronica and her instructor working on me at once the process only took thirteen minutes I was told. I felt incredibly special having the full attention to every detail.

I cleaned up, slid my shirt back on and discussed some of the formalities and details of the pageant and what the mask would be in finality. Students continued to buzz about and I truly felt like I was on the set of Face Off. Man, this was quite the experience! I’ll be back in February for Veronica’s final exam and the reveal of my grand Creative Costume for Mr. All American Gent 2013. This creation is going to be SIQ off-the-chain for your nerves D-O-W-N the house, Hunty!

And yes, I’m just saying…

Joe-Blasco-Professional-Makeup-Artist-Training-Schools

The brilliant magic being created at Joe Blasco’s Makeup Schools needs to be seen to believe. If this has EVER been a remote interest of yours, look into it. Like I was saying to Veronica, this business will always be in demand and isn’t going anywhere. It’s made me even think about my future possibilities.

Big THANK YOU to Joe, Veronica, Rob, Chris and crew. This was one of my absolutely favorite experiences, for reals. I’m one lucky man to have Joe Blasco on #TeamStevenMichael for AAGent 2013. I can’t stop staring at the picture above of my life cast. I looked concerned but I thought I was smizing! Ah… It looks amazing, nonetheless. So damn happy!

JADE JOLIE – SUPERSTAR IN THE MAKING

Jade Jolie

Jade Jolie. Just seeing or saying the words conjures images of ultimate glamour and sheer grandness. I’ve had this wonderful interview with Jade sitting patiently in my MacBook but wanted to hold off until the season premiere of Drag Race to publish it at the request of her team. I just got the OK and here we are with my first interview from the season five Dolls of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Since she was in L.A. for the premiere party at The Abbey, I finally met Ms. Jolie at Micky’s in West Hollywood the evening before while she and cast mates from Logo TV smash series RDR entertained the mass crowds that packed the house.

I was in town working at Joe Blasco’s in Hollywood on my Creative Costume for Mr. All American Gent 2013 and decided to stay the evening at the Ramada WeHo since my bestie Bob Taylor was also in town with Latrice Royale and faithful crew representing All Star Management. Plus with a swing through the Fabric/Garment Districts my schedule was complete. The Ramada has redone their rooms and I was quite thankful because they needed some serious attention. So glad I stayed there since that’s where the group of queens were and it’s so convenient to everything. I even had a moment to get a great workout at the newly remodeled 24 Hour Fitness across the street which was fierce and ran into the dear Chi Chi LaRue at Starbucks early the next morning before I checked out. It had been a hot minute since I’d seen him and he looked great.

Jade Jolie

Jade Jolie is one of the fabulous new squirrels on the drag block and was just so charming in person. Quite a sweetheart. Like I mentioned, Micky’s was so packed we couldn’t even get to the stage to tip the girls so we hung towards the back with the likes of former RDR Dolls: Manila, Raja, Carmen and Mimi Imfurst. The energy was busting and bustling throughout the club. We had a great time! Anytime I spend precious moments with Bob is great for me regardless if we’re curled up in sweats on the couch or tittying to the hottest clubs dressed to the nines. I enjoyed seeing him in enjoying himself in his element. Everyone was having a great time.

The show moved along swiftly by the help of hostess emcee Raven and her harem of misfits including Morgan McMichaels, Alaska Thunderfuck, Latrice Royale, Coco Montrese, Alyssa Edwards, Jade and Honey Mahogany to mention a few. The crowd also found season five finalist Roxxxy Andrews and superstar Shangela mingling amongst their fans. Bob said that the next evening at the premiere party at The Abbey fans were coming up to Latrice and breaking into tears from joy. He mingled with Mike Ruiz, Michelle Visage, Camille Grammar and RuPaul himself while I drove Stella Stang back safely into the desert after a pass through Krispy Kreme at Ontario Mills. Honestly, one of the best times I’ve ever had in Los Angeles!

RuPaul's Drag Race Season V

We are so looking forward to seeing the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race while rooting Jade on week after week. I’m expecting great things from this up and coming goddess, so learn who she is and what her Tea is all about. Here she is in her own words letting us take a glimpse at who Jade Jolie really is. This interview was a fun one! Luckily because I’m connected in the right places I’m paddling the media canoe delivering the hottest celebrity dish and detail before many others. Meet the bubbly effervescence of Jade Jolie…

Steven Michael – Hey Mamma! I know things are about to blow up for you so let me introduce you to your fans and followers in a few ways they maybe don’t know you already. It was fierce meeting you at Micky’s. I wish we had grabbed a snapshot. Where did you begin this crazy career in drag?

Jade Jolie – “I started at the Metro in Jacksonville, FL. I would religiously come back to perform or compete regardless if I won or loss every week when I lived just 1 1/2 hours away. I have to say I’ve never been as determined with anything as I have been with drag in my life!”

Jade Jolie

It shows! It really does. You’ve come along way, baby girl. What or who are your inspirations?

“My biggest inspiration growing up was the Spice Girls. They appealed to every side of my colorful personality! I lived for everything about them Their lives seemed so colorfully happy and drag fabulous!”

Jade Jolie

I do love them, too! I worship Spice World when Posh Beckham is asking about the “little black Gucci dress or the other little black Gucci dress.” So vapid and perfect. Do you consider yourself a drag queen or female impersonator and what’s the difference?

“To me they’ve seemed the same. I am a drag queen, female impersonator, part-time woman, beautiful clown, ladyboy, femme Manwich sandwich. (giggles) You choose.”

You made me laugh out loud. What’s the biggest misconception about shooting reality TV? And biggest misconception about Jade Jolie?

“I know you hear this all the time but until you actually go through the experience I don’t think spectators realize the work and hours that go into a day. It was exhausting but I wouldn’t have given up the experience for anything in the world. As far as myself I always seem to be underestimated. Maybe it’s this fishy face? But you never know what I can produce and will never stop trying to up my own game and continuing to grow as a entertainer and person.”

Jade Jolie

Are you nervous watching yourself on TV? Did you find yourself acting differently when the camera was filming you?

“It’s a mix of nerves and excitement! There were so many things to focus on as far as challenges and getting things done eventually the cameras faded away.”

I know you have very strict contract confidentiality clauses but anything you can share about the upcoming season?

Drag Race is our Gay Olympics. I would never want to spoil the surprises to come! You just have to tune in and watch.” (giggles)

RuPaul's Drag Race V

Bah-humbug! What do you think it was about your audition tape that attracted the casting agents to you? There must have been something you did that made it all pop for them because I bet they get a lot of tapes to sleuth through.

“I’m sure being a fishy and pretty queen didn’t hurt. (laughs) But honestly I tried to really let loose and just be myself in my tape as if I was kiki’ing in my house. I’m a lil’ off and I’ll be the first to admit it but I think it’s our differences which makes us shine. Luckily me being my vibrant self caught there eye!”

Jade Jolie

I worship. Who has been your favorite Doll from previous seasons?

“Jujubee – Hands down. I love her sense of humor and style. She also is one of the few RuPaul girls I had the privilege to actually meet before the show and she’s even more sweet, humble and genuine in person.”

Jade Jolie

When Jujubee was on during All Stars I really thought that she really came out guns blazing and did a great job! She shined more that round than during her first season, for me. It was a hard top group of Dolls to compete against during All Stars. Being on the show and given the fact you’re working more because of that has to really polish off the girls as seasoned performers. Being on RuPaul’s Drag Race is one hell of an opportunity for queens. As Latrice said, “It’s is life changing.” Are you ready for fame? To be recognized from TV? How will you stay grounded?

“It’s so surreal. I count my blessings everyday and although I’ve worked so hard to get here, it’s still a dream. I’m so thankful for RuPaul seeing something special in me. Fame is just a word. I will always be the same person and never forget what I’ve been through and who’s been with me on the way.” (smiles)

Jade Jolie

How important is a drag family? Describe yours…

“I never knew how special a drag family was honestly until the recent years past. The best way I can describe mine is loyal and honest, which is key to me to even be my friend let alone be family and mine truly has. Once people have a perception of you they tend to feed you what you want to hear and family will set you straight – Tough Love Style.” (laughs)

What did you find yourself doing on days off from filming and were you locked
away deep in Hollywood?

“Pure Hibernation. Sleep never seemed so special!” (giggles)

I can imagine! Jade Jolie. Where did your name come from?

“Jade originated from my still very active gamer side playing Mortal Kombat. Jade was a character that was particularly fabulous with the best bod and tits so I was like I have to be her. Jolie is from Angelina Jolie who to me is the Queens of all Queens.”

Jade Jolie

Yes she is. Love her Lara Croft movies. Mamma is badass! And finally, describe your “Dream Cast.” Who’s there and what’s the opening production?

“Hmm… Probably Jujubee, Coco Montrese, Jinkx Monsoon and Vivienne Pinay so we can all do the ‘Spice Up Your Life’ production at the end of the SpiceWorld.” (giggles continually)

Wasn’t she just delightful?! I want to spend more time with her and guess I will be every Monday night during RuPaul’s Drag Race 9/8c on Logo TV. And don’t forget Untucked afterwards which is ALWAYS where the real story and Tea is spilled. Trust, Hunty! Setting the DVR, faster.

RuPaul's Drag Race V

MAN TO MAN WITH SCOTT CULLENS

Scott Cullens Naked

Drumroll, please… Here’s the interview you’ve been waiting for! I’ve truly heard your desperate cries to find out everything there is to know about reality star and Palm Springs personality, hunkalicious Scott Cullens. I just happen to have direct access to the man himself and in-between shooting his new reality program Grand Designs for A&E, I was able to get him to sit down and reflect on a wonderful life well lived. We know each other well enough to be aware of one another’s sick and twisted mindset and humor which I believe draws us together. I knew Master Cullens’ answers would be fierce. But of all the celebrity interviews I’ve done and there’s blessedly been a few from RuPaul Dolls and soap opera stars, Scott gave me more heart and soul  than I had even imagined him offering.

Scott Cullens Naked

I see Scott on a daily basis at World Gym Palm Springs pumping iron, cutting abs with his trainer Eddie and sweating the house down on our cardio playground. Cullens is religious about his workouts and worships the time he spends at the gym. His body is unbelievable. He is always in his look and I’ve never seen him look bad. From carrying a pink backpack over his bowling ball sized shoulders to overseeing his own company, Palm Pacific Construction, creating masterpieces in beautiful homes across the Valley, Scott Cullens is one of a kind. Unique, complex and a brilliant example of the way gay culture is often revered today, here’s Scott on striving for perfection as a Gym Barbarian, his time with Barbara Walters on The View and what type of man really turns him on.

Steven Michael – Let me start off by saying in my most reassuring Samantha Jones voice to Carrie Bradshaw before she became “runway roadkill” during Margaret Cho’s fashion show in Sex and the City, “You’re a model.” An inside joke, indeed. Can you give us a brief history of where you grew up and what your childhood was like?

Scott Cullens – “The best way for you to visualize my childhood in Kansas and Missouri is to think of Honey Boo Boo but with less class. My parents were in high school when they had me so we grew up together. I remember our airbrushed van – naked ladies with gigantic tits, shag carpeting on the floor, ceiling and walls with a wet bar and moon roof. We entered the van in car shows and I took the trophies to show and tell. I worked very hard pumping gas, mowing lawns, picking up aluminum cans so I could keep up with the kids at school with new Nikes and terry cloth shirts. It wasn’t a dream childhood, but I had parents that loved me.”

SeanBlackModelScottCullens
Wow, Scott. I had no idea you came with such vivid history. I grew up in the Bible Belt and definitely have those stories that would amaze. Were you big and strong as a teenager and when did your aspirations for the ultimate physical brawn come into play with your psyche?

“I did have the brawn as a teenager. I went to high school with Brad Pitt. Yes, he may have become an international mega super celebrity, however, I won ‘Best Body’ in high school. He might have the fame but I have the ‘Best Body’ award. Remind me to dig it out for you from Mom’s basement. I was a swimmer in high school and was well liked by the girls. However, you weren’t allowed to be popular unless you played football or were a cheerleader. Thank God for those girls liking me or I would have been an outcast.”

Ooh, child. I do not miss high school. I was very involved in clubs, band and even a cheerleader but knew there was a life outside of it waiting for me. What do you personally feel is the biggest misconception about you?

“The biggest misconception about me is that it’s easy for me to stay in this shape. There is a fat guy screaming to get out of me. I workout like a fiend every day, hour of cardio, hour and half of weights. I try to watch my diet but I’m drawn to junk food.”

Scott Cullens Underwear

Yes, I love to eat. And can bust up a Little Debbie something-something. What’s your new A&E show Grand Designs going to feature? That’s the title, right? Are you the main focus or are you part of an ensemble? When does it air?

“I would love to give you lots of information about my new television show on A&E but we are only in the 2nd week of filming and I’m contractually unable to discuss the details until we get closer to airing. I can tell you it is a home building and design show that is already popular in other countries. They are following me building a new luxury home in Palm Springs over the next several months from start to finish. I’m very excited and fortunate to be a part of this project. I will of course find it appropriate to take off my shirt at many inappropriate times during filming.”

Well naturally, Gypsy Rose Lee. Your fans would have it no other way. What do you find the most fascinating part of shooting reality TV? And the biggest misconception about filming?

“Reality TV is like porn, a lot of starting and stopping. It is not really flowing like you see it in the finished product. It’s always difficult to remember to repeat the question you are asked by the director in your responses or the viewer has no idea what you are talking about.”

Model Scott Cullens

I have always believed that reality stars are pawns for the editors. Bruce Villanch once said to do and re-do what the directors want in reality television or they’ll fuck you in editing. Which best describes your workout regime? Joan Crawford’s Mommie Dearest intensity or a Navy Seals hardcore beat down? Describe your workouts and do you eat exactly what you should for the perfect physique?

“My workouts are definitely Navy Seal hardcore beat down. To get ready for the camera, I prepare several weeks in advance with a daily routine of 1-2 hours of weight training, 1 hour of medium intensity cardio, and a couple of 1 hour abs-only trainer-guided sessions each week. My diet during prep consists of white fish, lemon, 1/2 cup of vegetables and 1/2 cup rice, water 5 x per day.”

Scott Cullens

That actually sounds good to me right now. The food not the regime. Well, whatever you do works really well. We’re friends naturally on Facebook and I see the comments people leave for you and your breathtaking images, basically paying homage for a job well done. Of course, I must bring you down to earth by witty quips of my humor and I see some of your other confidants do as well. It comes from a place of love. How does it make you feel when you read the comments of admiration? Because I’ll be first to say it, “Bitch you look good.”

“Everyone enjoys the good feeling of a compliment. The best compliment for myself is maintaining my body and health at my age. Yep, I’m 48 in March 2013.”

Just hit the 45-year-young mark myself. How do you deal with haters and do you find they are out there watching you waiting for you to have a bad hair day, so to speak?

“When I did my first television show, I was unprepared for the haters. The blogs and fan mail was 90% nice but the other 10% were not just mean, they were blood-thirsty, venomous, hateful messages. It really got to me for a bit. But then I realized that not a single one of those people know me or have even met me. That much energy put into hate must surely be about something wounded within them and I stopped taking it personally.”

Scott Cullens

Shady people love to hide behind their anonymous keyboards and spew their hatred. Plus, the way one person can read what someone else types can also get things very twisted regardless of the intent. It is really nice when someone surprises you with a compliment. Especially on a day when we’re possibly not loving ourselves. Can you recount your story of being on The View after your episode on Obsessed was first aired? You told me personally about Barbara Walters’ assertive ways backstage and how it all went down. Care to share?

“My interview on The View was a fantastic experience. I was afraid of Elizabeth Hasselbeck because of her conservative stance on everything. However, she called out my name when she saw me before the show and introduced herself. After a while, I realized I may not agree with a single word out of her mouth but she is a nice woman and I respect her. Whoopi was the nicest and gave me a bear hug and whispered in my ear that my bravery on coming out with severe OCD helped a lot of people and she was proud of me. Barbra Walters was asked specifically not to bring up a scene in the show involving a tampon. The producer said it was too much for morning audiences. I was sitting one foot from her as she agreed not to speak about it. Then WHAM! She side swipes me with a question about the tampon scene. I came back with the solid quip, “I understand how scaring the gay guy with a tampon is hilarious, I get it,” and that ended the entire segment.”

“She later tracked me down after the show and asked me a half dozen questions about my relationship and OCD. I called her Barbara and I think she wanted a Ms. Walters. Oooops. Two weeks later I was contacted by the Oprah show and booked for September 11th that year with Whitney Houston. You don’t think I was nervous? Well, a few days later, after I’m sure a thorough Google search involving naked pictures and my Big Muscle profile, I was uninvited. I told ABC and The View about the pictures online and they didn’t care. My story is still interesting and helpful whether you’ve seen my dick online or not. Whatevs.”

palm pacific_logo

Whatevs, indeed. I remember you telling me the story after you had returned from New York and I was wanting to hear it again. Thanks for sharing. I had been in Nashville when it aired and I was packing to return home in the hotel room watching you thinking, Whoa! Speaking of Obsessed, were you happy with how you were portrayed overall? How does it feel seeing yourself on the television?

“When I was first contacted for the show Obsessed, I said, ‘Hell no!’ I carried around these crazy thoughts and behaviors in my head my entire life and I was not going to be ridiculed on national television by discussing them openly. But my therapist said that if I could help one kid that was afflicted like I was, would it be worth it? So I agreed. Overall, I was happy that the show reached millions of people and I received hundreds of emails and messages from people that went to seek help from a professional or the best letters were from teenagers who told their parents they suffered from the same thing that guy on television does. I was trapped in my room at age eight because I had so many rituals I had to perform to get out. It’s torture.”

“The show really focused in on my obsession with germs but that really was a masterful edit because my real affliction is counting and where I walk or don’t walk. What I touch or don’t touch. It’s really an inexplicable affliction but the best way to explain it is there are these strange thoughts that enter an OCD-afflicted person’s head which then causes anxiety. The anxiety seems to be temporarily abated by performing a senseless ritual. I have had many many years of therapy and lead a life that most would not even notice any of my rituals. I work hard to keep the anxiety low and not perform the rituals. Stress makes it worse. Being happy seems to be the best medicine for the affliction.”

Scott, your honestly astounds me. I could really go on more about what you’ve just said but you summed it up brilliantly. Sometimes I find myself getting slightly OCD on a situation but nothing like you described. Thanks for sharing that. I haven’t seen The Adonis Factor but did catch a few clips. Was there any backlash from how open you and many of the subjects were about looking good being a key to happiness, popularity and success?

“I know several of the guys in The Adonis Factor received a lot of backlash after the movie aired. I was as honest as I could be about circuit parties, drug use, steroid use, Botox, and all of the things that are a part of being in the ‘gay scene.’ I think my total honest approach garnered me a lot of fans and support for my role in the movie. I really did not get a single mean or hateful message. They were all very positive.”

What do you do on your time off? How does Scott let his hair down?

“I love to travel when I have the time. I usually book my trips for the entire year ahead of time that way I can force myself to take a work break. I went to Buenos Aires, Puerto Vallarta and Belize last year.”

I love traveling, too. It’s difficult to find time to get away. Would you like to share you story of sobriety and when that began? Is it difficult going to the big circuit events and not partaking in the party favors like many are?

“I have been sober from drugs and alcohol for almost nine years now. I went to the Betty Ford Center after a single moment of clarity one summer day in 2004. I had just lost the last of the money I had at the casino. I was out of drugs and I started brushing my teeth and they just started falling out of my mouth in little pieces. I was unrecognizable in the mirror. I am one of the few people who have been fortunate enough to go to the darkest place broken in a million pieces and find a way to take the best pieces and create the man I had always hoped to be. Each morning and each night I recite, out loud, all the things I am grateful for. The list keeps growing even though I am am content with what God has given me so far. I am truly blessed to be able to say that I am impeccable with my word, respect others, and try to be the best guy I can be every day.”

“I still love to dance and go to the circuit parties. The obsession with drugs and alcohol was lifted and I am not affected by the presence of them at the parties. Many of my friends are partaking at these parties but they are not addicts like me and I am in no seat of judgment. I am just one of the few that are blessed enough that those environments do not entice me to use and I can still go and have more fun than I ever did high.”

Scott Cullens - American Eros

What do you feel is the biggest challenge for today’s gay community and thoughts on how to combat it and survive through it?

“One of the biggest challenges for today’s gay community is drug abuse. The drugs have been there for those of us who could not handle the feelings of ‘less than’ or fear. Crystal Meth seems to be the worst culprit and I would encourage anyone who hasn’t tried it to just know that it is not worth the experience. I have no judgments about drug use, but I do have judgments about drug abuse when it has a negative impact on the individual and our community. I’m grateful I have the frame of reference I do. Sex and parties are so much more fun sober, for me.”

Are you doing now what you had set out to do when you were younger? If not, how have things changed from what you once wanted for yourself?

“I had intentions of being a doctor. I finished pre-medical training and did some externships after college. My life today may not have been exactly what the plan was when I was younger but I can honestly say its better than I had ever hoped.”

MarkHenderson - Model Scott Cullens

If you weren’t living here in Palm Springs, where would you be? If you didn’t have the successful construction business, what would you be doing?

“I cannot understand why everyone in the world doesn’t want to live in California. I’ve lived in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles and Palm Springs. I could live anywhere as long as it is within the State of California. I used to own several private training gyms in Los Angeles. We had mostly a celebrity clientele like Herb Ritts, Brad Pitt, Rachel Hunter, K.D. Lang and Monica Lewinsky. I’ve changed my career several times in my life and always found success. If you love digging ditches and are passionate about digging ditches, then you will find a lot of success digging ditches. Find a passion and it always turns into success.”

What is you biggest passion?

“My biggest passion currently is building and design. You can go to www.PalmPacificConstruction.com and see my work. I’m very proud of what I do.”

What can people expect from you as a good friend and what do you expect from the people in your close circle?

“I expect loyalty, honesty and money from my friends. They can expect loyalty, honesty and that I’ll spend the money.”

MarkHenderson- Model Scott Cullens

As far as romance goes, what kind of man do you look for? And are you seeing anyone serious right now?

“I am a serial monogamous dater. I like pretty boys and I do not have the best track record as far as tenure but I do not regret any of my relationships. My first boyfriend 20 years ago is still my best friend today. I am currently seeing someone. We have only been dating for a couple months but maybe #14 is my lucky number!”

What do you want your legacy to be?

What/Who truly inspires you to be greater than you are?

“Anyone who speaks with passion and conviction in spite of public opinion will always get my attention whether I agree or not.”

Any advice for today’s LGBTQ youth?

“For today’s LGBTQ youth I would say to be authentic, dream big and take pride in the fact that you are perfect, whole and complete just the way God made you.”

I personally thanked Scott for joining in the conversation here on my website and he replied saying, “I loved your questions. It took me to a very insightful place last night.” I loved hearing that because I am honest in saying this has been not only one of the best interviews I’ve done here but also one of my all-time favorites! Once I find out more details about Scott’s new reality show, you’ll hear about it here! Thanks to the photographers for their amazing art.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS IN SIN CITY

Loving Husband

I’m playing catch up and getting around to blogging about spending Christmas at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. It was spectacular. We arrived to a very busy Valet on Sunday the 23rd and got checked in rather quickly. We’ve always been welcomed in VIP but the lines were so swift we enjoyed the leisure of the open lobby and the people-watching Sin City always promises. After a fabulous upgrade, we arrived to our incredible suite facing the Bellagio Fountains and felt complete bliss. We were home.

Ice Rink Cosmopolitan

I called down to the Bell Desk and asked for our bags while Jacques opened up the curtains and sliding doors. Man, I love this place. Deciding to wing it for dinner until we arrived, Jacques and I walked the resort and found our dinner plans for the weekend before having a glass of wine at the Chandelier Bar. Later that evening we had made plans to see my stunning girlfriend Amber in Fantasy at Luxor. She was fierce. Girl danced twirling circles around that grand stage. Lead singer Lorena Peril has quite the voice and carried the show like a true professional. We were so happy we attended. Afterwards we found ourselves at the neon masterpiece of Peppermill for a spot of late-night grub before turning in. Love the lights of The Strip in my distant view as I slide into slumber.

Amber Stauser

Monday we woke and hit it down towards Wynn/Encore and the Fashion Mall for a spot of shopping. We always stop at the General Store near the Sahara for souvenir buying. I got mom and myself some very fun stuff! Back at the resort we enjoyed our annual lunch at China Poblano. Taste Bud Explosion, down. We wanted to have a moment in the room with some of the showgirls and champagne because there was a delicious bottle delivered to the suite for birthday which was very generous. However, no one wanted to drink before their show so with the cool weather only Amber came over for a round of ice skating at the Ice Rink at BLVD Social Club. Translation: The swimming pool iced over for fun and frolic under the cold night’s air above the radiation of the neon bulbs of The Strip. We had a blast and it meant a lot to me that she came over and spent time with us.

The Cosmopolitan - Bellagio

Christmas Eve we had dinner at Milos inside The Cosmopolitan and it was culinary brilliance. I love seeing Jacques enjoying dinner that he finds really good. My man knows food and I’m lucky because he does. After dinner we walked The Strip before the chilly evening wind called us inside the casino for Wheel of Fortune slot machine realness. I won my money back and that was fine. The warm bed was calling my name even more than the sounds of the dropping coins.

We love Las Vegas and ALWAYS enjoy ourselves. The Cosmopolitan is the ONLY place we stay. I can’t wait to go back. #777

THE SATURDAYS INVADE AMERICA – WORSHIP!

chasing the saturdays

I just watched Chelsea Lately with great anticipation as The Saturdays had their first US television appearance before the premiere of their new reality show Chasing The Saturdays landing on E! January 20. Chelsea gave them the business and even commented on wanting to sit on one of their faces with their purple lipstick as well as digging Mollie most since she’s the only single Sats onboard. They have quite the set up of appearances from Today to Tonight Show with Jay Leno. I’m dying inside but trying to remain cool on the outside. Please! I’m as giddy as a British tween with a short kicky cut like my favorite brunette diva Frankie Sandford! I’m actually feeling quite protective of them like they are this precious gem that only a very few lucky ones know about.

The-Saturdays-What-About-Us-thatgrapejuice

I’m so excited for them, in reality. I’ve loved them and their music for a good few years now and worship everything they have done. I could probably name their entire catalogue if you needed me to. Needless to say I’m looking forward to their reality show even though I have a copy of their UK docu-reality show What Happens On Tour. I have everything they’ve done, musically and video wise. They have rocked gay dance club music for a while now. Thankfully I have friends in high places that have always looked after my ears and eyes. It’s quite surreal to this all unfold on American soil. Living for the remixes to their first US release What About Us. Video, faster…

Long live The Saturdays! I WORSHIP. ♥

ON THE ROAD TO ALL AMERICAN GENT 2013

All American Gent 2013

Every once in a while I update what’s happening with my pageant run for Mr. All American Gent 2013 on the special place I created for that The Road to All American Gent 2013 Blog but the updates don’t make it here too often. I’ve been very wrapped up in the holidays and found myself working quietly here at the house while people buzz about making waves around town and beyond. My “drag closet” is busting at the seams with costumery projects that would give Project Runway squirrels a run for their reality.

It does overwhelm from time to time as a patient deep breath guides me through the perfected process of running for a national title such as Mr. All American Gent 2013. However, please don’t confuse an overwhelm of moment with weakness and despair. Oh, contrare. Things look really good. Again, if it wasn’t for my sponsors I wouldn’t be typing these words and heading to compete. THEY are the reason I’ll be there with my A Game, because Baby… This isn’t cheap! Trust me. Gagging.

As I discover E6000 glue worms around knuckles and a stranded 20ss A/B rhinestone in the distance I see finality of the process in the horizon while another deep breath comes over me. But for a different reason. I’ll be sad to see this end. I much more invested, literally, than I ever imagined I’d be. Win, lose or WIN! I’ll be richer because of the experience I have gone and will go through. I hope to be living  and doing that as Mr. All American Gent while spreading Scott’s word and passion for the art of entertainment and illusion to listening ears and eyes. We’ll see on March 16.

And then comes the aftermath. If I don’t do as well as I’m seeing things now, congrats to the winners and continue my support naturally. No Tea, No Shade. I’m going to have a great time, regardless of what hands we are dealt. Everyone I know that is competing for Gent is either a former national title holder or quite the deal so we will ALL be fierce. It’s going to be great contest. Plus, the national All American Goddess at Large 2013 pageant is also happening alongside ours which means bigger crowds and more excitement for the weekend at Masque Nightclub in Dayton, Ohio.

The winner of Gent will have his first booking at the final night of AAG at Large which means even more drag and routine for him. This all comes into play for me since there’s a good chance that I may be staying to perform. I have to think this way or what would I be going to compete? The possibilities excite me considerably. Which reminds me… Off to the gym to train.

Dates of Mr. All American Gent 2013 – March 14-16, 2013. Hope to see you there! X

THE FINALITY OF 2012 – PERSONAL THOUGHTS

Happy-New-Year-2013

We just got in from Kiyosaku where we enjoyed our annual Sushi and Sake Oblivion for New Year’s Eve. It just happens to be my 45th birthday tomorrow, as well. Oh, what a joy having your birthday on New Year’s Day you must be thinking. Ah, my dear reader. Stop it. You’re being silly. After years of repressed youth not only dealing with receiving just one present for both Christmas and birthday but also the no-class-party-because-of-Xmas-break syndrome I had to overcome, I got into my young adult years where things should have gotten better. Eh…

Michael Wayne - Steven Michael

When I would scoot out to the clubs for New Year’s Eve in hopes to get a special kiss from a familiar stranger I also came face-to-face with more repression. The clock strikes midnight. Auld Lang Syne plays while I fight back the tears (that song kills me) and everyone shouts HAPPY NEW YEAR! A few people remember to also wish me a quick Happy Birthday and move about dancing to gay club music, circuit party, et al. There’s my celebration. Whoopee. The next day everyone would be so hungover that no one would care. Oh, the years of personal therapy through an assortment of mood miracles.

Happy New Year 2013

However, since I’ve gotten more mature I have realized it is what it is and to make it what I want it to be. As in life… I treat my birthday how I see fit. In most recent years, we find ourselves in Las Vegas sinning in the city or enjoying the culinary exploits of the finer places in Palm Springs for a special dinner. I can’t hang with the party club kids anymore nor want to. I used to chase the dawn and now find myself in bed by 10 p.m. on most nights. And the fact that I’m entering a national pageant to have the responsibly of staying out in clubs to wee hours as the first Mr. All American Gent makes me giggle quietly. Bring on the Red Bull, I’ll need wings.

Happy Birthday

Last evening a few close friends came over for an impromptu birthday moment which made me feel very special. We toasted the new year ahead and to me, of course. I don’t normally make any deal about turning another year but I thought, why not?! The next few months are geared directly towards the pageant and as my drag closet explodes with costumery, anticipation and excitement continues to grow within. I’m so ready for this. My DJ Mac Valentine is putting fierce finishing touches on my talent mixes while I discover E6000 glue worms around my knuckles from bodacious blinging. Category is… Project Runway Realness.

Overall, the past year has been really good. Health-wise: I’m still standing on my own two and smiling. Work-wise: I just passed the 8-year-mark and am happy to be where I am. I feel appreciated. Family-wise: Jacques and I have never been stronger and the furry little ones are spoiled like only dogs can be by two fabulous daddies. Pageant-wise: Generous sponsors have provided me the means to bring elements that have never been seen before. I’m truly blessed.

Wishing you THE GREATEST THINGS in Life, Love and your very own Pursuit of Happiness. Take Thirteen!

MORNING VIEWS OF SIN CITY

The Cosmopolitan exterior

From my balcony view at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, I see The Strip beginning its new day of carrying hope-chasers and thrill-seekers to their next destination, translation: CASINO. As I type this quick blast of thought, I see early morning neon still burning down way at Treasure Island TI, the Bellagio Fountains have yet to begin their parade of shows and I realize I could honestly sit and look at The Strip for hours. A twinkle of chrome catches my eye or a hotel window from neighboring resorts calls my view while a low rumble of sound creates the soundtrack accented with a speeding taxi horn or the boots and hollers of party girls in heels or sexy studs out with their bros. There’s a definite winter chill in the air. Last evening I was able to wear this fabulous black velvet jacket and leather pants down to Luxor to see my dear sister Amber tear up the floor in the choreography-heavy Fantasy. Those girls are fierce and lead lady Lorena Peril has the pipes to sing many into the ground. We had a great evening ending at Peppermill for some quick late night grub then back into our warm bed while seeing The Strip wind down its day once again. A text came in from Amber saying she was heading this was to hit Marquee. It was 2 a.m. The city never sleeps… But we needed to. Off for a day of shopping, ice skating and a hot toddy or two. Mary Christmas.

And BIG THANKS to Renata in PR & The Cosmopolitan for the Birthday Champagne and hospitality. Always Fierce. X
