Celebrating California Queens 2016

I just retuned from a two-day stint in Long Beach where I judged two of the Miss Gay California USofA pageants held at Executive Suite Nightclub on Pacific Coast Highway. I had one ki-ki of a good-ass time. Yes, Gawd! Alongside drag icon Tommie Ross, fellow Brother in Shine Xavier Valentino, my new Good Judy Andrew T. Michael and Miss Gay California USofA Newcomer promoter Alyssa Nicole Whitney, I assisted in crowning our new title holders: Flame Monroe – Miss Gay California USofA ’16 and The Legendary Misty Knight – Miss Gay California USofA Classic ’16. …

Happy Holidays at The Cosmopolitan

Even though we brought mom into Las Vegas for Thanksgiving, the husband and I decide we needed a trip for ourselves. So we booked another one bedroom terrace suite at The Cosmopolitan, scheduled a few dinners at the resort and looked ahead to arriving Christmas Eve for a few days and nights of chilly Sin City debauchery. My good brother Brandon and his girl Megan were also heading over so we planned on connecting with them for some food, drink and memories. …

Reviewing Out and About Dad

Think of a time before the celebrated Mitchell and Cam of television’s juggernaut Modern Family. And especially before it was a popular and “in” thing to do, widely accepted and embraced as it is today. There was Jim Joseph! In Out & About Dad: My Journey as a Father with all its Twists, Turns, and a Few Twirls, author Jim Joseph chronicles his struggle with not only becoming the primary caregiver to his two children but doing it as an out gay man in the early ’90s before there were trendy hashtags…

Time Doesn’t Matter in Las Vegas

I knew getting my mom to Las Vegas for the first time in over 30 years was going to be one for the memory books. She hadn’t been to Las Vegas since Bally’s was the MGM Grand and you could walk across the Strip directly to Caesars Palace. This was the pre-Mirage era. A different place in a much different time. This trip she would experience something unlike anything she had before. My mother would have her own terrace one bedroom suite for three glorious nights at our home away from home, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Here’s her journey through my words and our meticulous planning. …

When Grown Men Chase Crowns

What does it take to enter a contest or pageant and run for a national title? You may think you have an idea but there’s so much that goes into it that no one sees. Until now. I’m going to give you my tale, take and takeaway from this year’s Mr. Gay USofA competition in San Antonio, Texas., from a competitor’s point of view. Mine. My story may be quite similar or surprisingly different than my fellow contestants, but it’s my version and I mean no offense or foul to anyone by anything I share. What happens when grown gay men chase a prestigious pageant crown?! Somethings I’ll keep to myself. Everything else will be told. Here’s what happens…

Taking On Circus Circus Las Vegas

I just returned from a quick trip over to Las Vegas where I stayed at the past-its-prime Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. Now, to be a fan and follower of my blog here you know I am a faithful follower of The Cosmopolitan and have stayed there the last seven times we’ve been to Sin City. However, it may be eight. I’ve lost count. But since this was a business trip I was on a budget and opted to save some coins and find an alternative. Through my membership at Last Minute Travel Club online I found myself reserving a room in the Casino Tower…

A Pageant Contestant’s Testimony

I’ve become guilty of doing something I read others for many times in social media, especially Facebook. I’ll post this about that expecting everyone to know what I’m talking about and unfortunately not everyone knows the Tea. (Tea = Truth, FYI) With the push towards my run to become the national Mr. Gay USofA 2015, I’ve had a number of people ask me exactly what I was involved with. I’ve put a number of promos and adverts out to get some buzz and hype going to hopefully gain support for my attempt which has brought on what I was looking for, inquiries and quizzes. …

Discovering Who Caitlyn Jenner Is

When I first heard the rumors throughout the media that Olympian star and athletic hero Bruce Jenner was beginning his transition to becoming a woman, I admit it was hard for me to believe. I just didn’t see it coming. Sure, in photos we clearly could see that he had what appeared to be some touchups or face work as Bruce and let his hair grow out. Everyone I’ve ever known to transition took a longer road than what seemed to be ahead of who we now know as Caitlyn. And in the same breath I wasn’t around her to witness or know her personally so I could never answer to what she has been going through. …
