When it comes to what’s happening in gay culture, Steven Michael knows exactly what’s happening or at least has an opinion about it. Oh, you didn’t know that? Yes, Honey! From RuPaul’s Drag Race to fabulous summer travel and even discussing something known as the presidential race, nothing is off limits. If it concerns me or warrants the attention of a blog post, read it here!
I rarely see something that separates people and their views faster than religion and that is the subject of politics. To know me is to know I support Hillary Clinton, always vote Blue and Democrat on all matters and can be very vocal about it. I’m not afraid to admit that I am not the most political person nor vastly knowledgable on the subject. But what I know is how I feel and I feel she will do the best job given our choices. Would I be opposed to Bernie Sanders as the nominee? Not really. I simply wish he and his supporters would stop being so dirty with the way they’re handling the campaign and have the success of the entire Democratic Party in his best interests.
However, I believe Hillary has more experience for the job duties required. Is she as crooked as people say? She’s never crossed me but I feel all politicians can be shady. Sorry, Hills. She’s a tough broad, no questioning it. People get twisted about that and butt hurt over the way she stands her ground. I’ll end it here. I’m so damn sick of seeing it all I can’t wait for it to be over. The media have fueled the force that is Donald Trump. He’s just been his stupid self saying dumb things and offending as many as he can being as outrageous as possible. But people still believe he will change America. I don’t believe he has my best interests in mind or the people near to me. I’m afraid it wouldn’t be for the better regarding people like me if he were elected. If you read this and he is your choice to lead our country, that scares me. PLEASE VOTE DEMOCRAT! #BLUE2016
On RuPaul’s Drag Race, another queen was crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar. After rounds of shocking eliminations, shady reads, epic lip-syncs, and the like, from-the-beginning-standout Bob The Drag Queen was crowned with statuesque Naomi Smalls and Instagram sensation Kim Chi following as her court. The season was finally something to see after a few first eliminations. The “Sashay Aways” were always correct even though I think it pained Mamma Ru to send Las Vegas headliner and Drag Race frontrunner Derrick Barry away towards the end. It seemed as the judges had a soft spot for the country’s premiere Britney Spears impersonator, already a superstar in her own right. We see on the horizon that RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 2 is coming soon and for those in the know, audition tapes for season 9 for Drag Race have already met their deadline. The RuPaul machine keep churning out television gold. And the smart girls work it for all its worth and the others get left behind. #PurseFirst
I’ve been working on an upcoming trip to Las Vegas and see where The Cosmopolitan has opened Beauty and Essex, the trendy eatery from N.Y.C. presented by Chef Chris Santos and the TAO Group. Taking over what once was Comme Ca, Beauty and Essex combines pawn shop, lounge and restaurant offering such fare as Tomato Tartare, signature cocktails and Smoked Bacon and Tomato Soup Dumplings. You may know Chef Santos from his hard-ass judging style on Chopped, inked arms and shaved head. Looking forward to trying out Beauty and Essex at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas very soon. The menu looks delicious and anything Cosmopolitan does has me from Hello. And while you’re there in Sin City check out Drag Race alum Shangela in her own residency at Paris Resort and Casino Las Vegas. Yes, Gawd! #WerqinGirl
In other drag news, this week in Texas a new Miss Gay USofA and Miss Gay USofA Classic will be crowned. Dallas will host the pageants and fans will enjoy preliminary nights of beaded gowns and twirling talents with top scoring contestants making up the final spots of Top 12. Interview scores carry over to final night when judges see exactly where the contestants are mentally about the job ahead and how prepared they are to take on the responsibilities. My sister Mokha Montrese will be stepping down as Miss Gay USofA while Roxie Hart crowns another Miss Gay USofA Classic. A legendary system continues its strong legacy of crowning winners to represent our vast LGBT community. #USofA
