Into Another New Year We Grow

Barney and Steven MichaelHappy New Year! I just came to the realization that I hadn’t posted anything for the new year and I’m seriously shamed about the entire ordeal. Kidding, totes! But I did feel like popping one out on the quick-quick just to catch up for hot minute. Because it has been just that – a hot minute since I’ve been on here! From fierce reality TV to future travel plans and beyond. What’s happening in today’s gay culture, primarily mine?! Here goes…

Xavier Valentino - Steven Michael - Bring It

My Dancing Dolls of Lifetime TVs Bring It! have started back with new episodes of bucking brilliance and soulful sass. Them little ladies give me life! Fo’ Realz! We are also all wrapped up in this season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Bravo TV with the deliciously funny and real Lisa Rinna and refreshing Eileen Davidson of soap fame and the cringeworthy moments the train wreck in a dress duo of Kim Richards and Brandi Glanville provide. Reality trash at its most decadent. Watch at your own risk. You can’t un-watch it once its done. Trust.

And finally RuPaul’s Drag Race will return on March 3 on Logo TV after much delay. Not sure what that Tea is but the fact they have new judges Carson Kressley and Ross Matthews, I’m skeptical. Sorry, girls. These two queens have never been my faves. Happy to see Michelle Visage is back fresh from her Celebrity Big Brother (in the UK) stint of mostly reading the shady Perez Hilton. Another one I have never cared for, Mz. Hilton. Perez has never been my voice nor is he as he claims a “gay icon.” The cast of RDR, however, looks fierce and seems to know what works for the camera. Dishy Drama! And what seems like a very tight corset and oxygen tank. Can’t wait to see what thats about!

In music news, I’m obsessed with the remastered album re-release of the Stock Aiken Waterman produced gem Another Place & Time by Donna Summer. CAN’T. STOP. PLAYING. You probably know the smash “This Time I Know It’s For Real” but the entire album is every damn thing. Check out “Whatever Your Heart Desires,” “If It Makes You Feel Good,” and the chart-topping “Love’s About To Change My Heart.” If you loved Dead or Alive and Bananarama from the day then you’ll worship this.

Travel wise, I’m taking my soon-to-be-official husband to Nashville for his very first time! Jacques has met mom before but not my close back-home friends nor had true southern soul food. So leave the croissants at home and bring on the meat and three! (Translation: Good eatin’ with good kinfolk!) We are flying in on a United bird and I’ll be introducing him to airport birdwatching, trust. April is departure and even though it’s a quick trip, I’m damn excited! I’m sure Vegas will call our names to Sin City mid-summer so that’s always on the books.

Palm Springs to Bakersfield

And on the pageant front, I’ve decided to throw my top hat back into the ring of royalty at USofA pageantry and compete for the premiere title of Mr. Gay California USofA 2015 in Bakersfield on June 14. I’m thrilled that dedicated promoters have grabbed the reigns for a west coast Mr. Gay USofA preliminary and a date has been announced. I am smartly preparing as we speak. I’ve always wanted to represent California in an official capacity and see this as my best opportunity to do so. If I can get into nationals’ Top 12 dancing solo like I did last year just think what I can do when I have an entire #TeamStevenMichael at the helm. This is the year I show out. Grab a ticket!
